Romare Bearden Park

One of our favorite features of Uptown Charlotte is Romare Bearden Park, nestled comfortably between skyscrapers, restaurants, and the brand new BB&T Ballpark. Named after the Charlotte born artist, the park opened in 2013 to much fanfare, and has remained very active ever since! Playing host to weekly music series, daily fitness camps, and Summer Concerts, there is plenty of reason to head Uptown. In fact, this past Friday, up to 30,000 football fans were present to send off the Carolina Panthers on their way to the Super Bowl.

Savvy was there to check out the action!

Practice Facility Crowd

Crowds gather early in the day to catch a glimpse of the final home practice before the team jets off to San Francisco.

Man Cheering

The Carolina Purrcussion Drumline performed as fans danced and sang along.

Kid on Shoulders

Panthers’ Head Coach Ron Rivera spoke to the exuberant crowd alongside fan favorites Thomas Davis, Mike Tolbert, and Jonathan Stewart. Not forgetting his Charlotte roots, Governor Pat McCrory was in attendance to pump up the crowd with Mayor Jennifer Roberts.

Keep Pounding

Fans trickle out as the day winds down. Some take the path alongside Bank of America Stadium to grab an afternoon drink at Draught, a game-day fan favorite.

Of course when not packed with Panthers fans, Uptown Charlotte has plenty else to offer. Around the corner from Romare Bearden is the world class Levine Center for the Arts. This cultural campus includes the Mint Museum’s Uptown showcase of Craft + Design, the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts and Culture, the Knight Theatre, and the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art.

Plenty of dining options abound as you bounce around taking some of the finest collections of art in the Southeast. We recommend dining with Chef James Stouffer at Halycon inside the Mint Museum. Looking for an after dinner coffee? Don’t skip on Amelie’s newest location on the corner of S. College St. and MLK Jr Blvd. Of course, the original Amelie’s is still open 24/7 in NoDa, in case you’re a night owl!
