RunJenRun 5K, March 9

Event details: RunJenRun 5k is an annual event in its 7th year. All proceeds benefit the GoJenGo Foundation, a community assisting people in their fight against breast cancer.
When: March 9, 8 a.m.
Where: Symphony Park in SouthPark
Why it’s a can’t miss: “The time is here to get back outside after a season of hibernation. Days are longer, and the temperatures are starting to creep up, making it a great opportunity to dust off your running shoes. I am excited to join friends and participating in the RunJenRun 5k in South Park. Breast cancer inflicts so many women—nearly everyone has known a family member, friend, teacher or neighbor that has been impacted. My mother is a survivor. NoDa Costume Crawls, second Thursday of the month starting March 14

Event details: The second Thursday of each month, head to NoDa and dive into the action with featured drinks at NoDa hot spots, street vendors, performers, drum circles and more. Themed costumes are encouraged, but nothing that obscures a person’s face.
When: Second Thursday of the month, 6 p.m.

Why it’s a can’t miss: “One of my favorite Spring events is a new spin on an old tradition. The NoDa neighborhood is relaunching the popular NoDa Crawls with a costume themed twist. The first Costume Crawl is March 14, with a ’70s-’80s throwback. April 11 is Wedding and Prom Night, and May 9 is the Toga Crawl. Come dressed to impress.” —Savvy + Co. Color Me Green 5K Trail Run, March 16I

Event details: If you aren’t feeling the Irish spirit, the Color Me Green 5K Trail Run ought to do the trick. Now in its seventh year, this race challenges runners to avoid (or invite) being bombarded with green dye as they run through the USNWC trail system. After the race, enjoy the Green River Revival with yoga, live music and the whitewater channels turning shamrock green.
When: March 16, 10 a.m.
Where: U.S. National Whitewater Center
Why it’s a can’t miss: “It’s a healthy and super festive way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, welcome spring, get active and enjoy the outdoors, friends and family. You can bring your lucky dog, too. I can’t wait to get back to my Irish roots with live music, yoga, food and drinks while we turn the Catawba green. It’s the perfect kick-off to the season at the Whitewater Center. Baxter Village Spring Fling, March 16

Event details: A family friendly all-day event in Baxter Village that takes place on Market Street. The celebration includes street vendors, kid-friendly activities, food and drink.
When: March 16, 2-6 p.m.

Dancing with the Stars of Charlotte to benefit The Pink House, March 30

Event details: Dancing with the Stars of Charlotte is a unique (and local) dance competition. The proceeds from what each star raises helps fund the many services Carolina Breast Friends provides at the Pink House. Thirteen Charlotte celebrities take to the stage and show off their moves to determine the ultimate winner. This year, the event will be hosted by WBTV’s Molly Grantham and the NFL’s Kurt Coleman.
When: March 30, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Knight Theater
Why it’s a can’t miss: “I have many dear friends who have been affected by breast cancer, and the mission of Carolina Breast Friends is to serve the breast cancer community in a positive environment. They provide education, encouragement and friendship during any stage of the journey. Tuck Fest, April 25-28

Event details: Tuck Fest is a multi-day festival that celebrates everything outdoors with races and competitions, exhibitions, demos and live music. All this takes place at the beautiful U.S. National Whitewater Center.
When: Thursday, April 25, through Sunday, April 28

Why it’s a can’t miss: “This is my favorite outdoor event because it is family friendly and welcoming for all levels of experience. Besides a million events to choose from, there are always great bands in the evenings! We have great memories of running with our kids in the Twilight 5K trail race and dancing to The Revivalists. Also, the youth obstacle course was a hit, and The Shakey Graves were rocking! This year we want to bring our furry family member for the Dog Jog and maybe try the Young and Old Tandem Kayak Race. Charlotte Jazz Festival, April 29 – May 4

Event details: Charlotte showcases local and national talent during this
weeklong celebration of jazz. Many events are free and open to the public.

Why it’s a can’t miss: “This year’s jazz festival is all about highlighting both the history of jazz and its future in the Queen City. I’m especially excited to see one of my favorite musicians, Wynton Marsalis, perform in Charlotte.

River Jam at the U.S. National Whitewater Center, May-September

Event details: If you like an awesome outdoor venue with your live music, this is totally your jam. River Jam is held in the middle of the world’s largest man-made whitewater river, and it is the perfect place to rock out to roots rock, Americana, bluegrass, folk and funk on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Bring your friends, pack a chair or blanket, grab a cold brew and food, and soak up a night under the stars.
When: Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and USNWC’s festivals, May through September, 7:30-10 p.m.

Midwood Maynia, May 4

Event details:  Plaza Midwood hosts its annual Midwood Maynia as a way to welcome the warmer weather. It’s an annual rite of passage to celebrate springtime and come together as a community with events such as home and garden tours, a 5k run, pet parade, plant swaps and a party in the park with music, beer and food vendors.

North Carolina Brewers and Music Festival, May 10-11

Event details: An awesome event where you can sip on local beer, enjoy live music and do some camping too!

NoDa Brewery 5k, June 1

Event details: This Saturday afternoon 5k through the beautiful neighborhood of NoDa includes cool swag, beer, live music and food trucks. After you work up a sweat and cross the finish line, celebrate with a pint of beer.

Why it’s a can’t miss: “My favorite spring event is the NoDa Brewery 5k. The chip-timed race is the perfect mix of exercise and fun for all those who love a little cardio.
